Eat Like You Love Yourself

There is a fine line between loving yourself and loving your flesh. The Israelites loved their flesh when they complained to God that all they had was heavenly manna to eat. God gave them their desire and gave them so much meat that it literally came out of different parts of their bodies. They loved their flesh. They wanted things to only TASTE good, regardless of its nutritional content or effect on their health. They were unsatisfied with HEAVENLY manna. Food that God just dropped from the sky and said, "This is perfect food for YOU! And there will always be just the right amount for you!"
Isn't that just like us? Many of us know how to eat properly. We know that eating fried or greasy food 4+ times a week is unhealthy. We know that pouring butter on our vegetables, rice, and other "good" foods negates their purpose. We even know and feel the effects of our unhealthy eating--like kidney stones, chronic heartburn, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. and yet here are we are... complaining like the Israelites that our salads don't have enough ranch, or water isn't as good as soda. I know I'm stepping on a lot of toes (my own included) but sometimes we have to realize that our unhealthy habits aren't just detrimental to ourselves but they blatantly dishonor God!
I'm not saying we should never eat those treats! We are an ice cream eating family for sure! But if you're valuing your taste buds above honoring the temple of the Holy Ghost... welp... aye, there's the rub.

  1. this is so true. Today I had burger king and didn't eat healthy later today either. I am feeling it for sure. Thank you for this reminder. Sometimes, I need my toes stepped on. :)
